Aramco, KAUST sign wide-ranging R&D accord

Saudi Aramco has signed a memorandum of understanding with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST).

Saudi Aramco signed a memorandum of understanding earlier this month with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST).

Over the next 10 years, Aramco will provide up to $100 million to fund R&D projects with KAUST related to the energy transition, materials transition, upstream technologies, digital solutions and sustainability, with a focus on developing commercially viable outcomes.  

Sustainability research will include hydrogen, carbon capture and storage, renewables, and energy storage solutions. Additional projects will likely investigate advanced carbon materials and geothermal energy, among others.
