Perenco and its partners in the Project Poseidon have completed a first injection test for CO2 in the southern UK North Sea.
The program, conducted by Petrodec’s ERDA jackup, involved injecting CO2 into a depleted natural gas reservoir in the Leman field.
ERDA, said to be the first rig in the UK with an approved safety case for CO2 injection, has now departed the Leman 27H platform.
Fifteen injection cycles were performed, with 11 CO2 offshore batch refills.
According to Perenco, there were no operational issues and the campaign demonstrated that carbon storage is feasible at depleted fields in the southern North Sea, using existing offshore production infrastructure.
The Poseidon co-venturers, which include Carbon Catalyst and Harbour Energy, also collaborated for the testing with various energy, service and CCS companies.
