ONGC finds gas in deepwater Cauvery Basin offshore India
ONGC has made an ultradeepwater gas-condensate discovery in the Cauvery Basin offshore eastern India.
The Chola-1 (CYUD191H-CH-AA) well was drilled in OALP Block CY-UDWHP-2019/1 to test the potential of syn-rift sequences, with four targets identified for production testing.
During the test campaign, the first target flowed 295,490 cu. m/d of gas and 111 bbl/d of condensate, with the outcome reported to India’s DGH as a new pool discovery.
The company reported that the second target delivered 517,425 cu. m/d of gas and 368 bbl/d of condensate, while the third flowed 86,712 cu. m/d of gas.
Following these successes, ONGC has spud a second well, Kamakshi#1, in the same block pursuing hydrocarbon prospectivity in Aptian sequences.
At the end of October, the company produced first oil from three new wells on the A-field in deepwater Block KG-DWN-98/2, also offshore the east coast, lifting overall production to about 25,000 bbl/d from eight Clutsre-II wells of cluster-II. The remaining five oil wells should go onstream shortly.
Another recent highlight was a fast-track discovery via well C-22-7(ST), drilled following revamp work on the C-22 P wellhead platform.
ONGC has awarded two contracts for projects in offshore western India: the Daman Upside Development Project – Well Head Platforms (DUDP-WP) and Pipeline Replacement Project (PRP – 8), Group B. These should boost gas production by about 5 MMcm/d.
