MELBOURNE, Australia – The drillship Stena DrillMAX has spudded the FAN South-1 exploration well into the South Fan prospect offshore Senegal.
This is theCairn Energy-led partnership’s first pure exploration well to be drilled offshore Senegal since the discovery wells FAN-1 and SNE-1 in 2014. All subsequent activity has been appraisal of the SNE oil field.
Partner FAR, which assesses potential reserves in South Fan at 134 MMbbl recoverable, says the well will also assess the possibility of improved reservoir presence and quality in the basin, in order to assist evaluation of the FAN-1 well results.
South Fan comprises several stacked reservoir targets. The well will be drilled to an estimated TD of 5,317 m (17,444 ft) in a water depth of 2,139 m (7,017 ft), with wireline logging to be conducted before the well is P&A’d.
