STAVANGER, Norway – HydraWell is working on a system for plugging offshore wells without the need for a drilling rig.
The proposed solution is said to enable plugging of wells from the production platform usingwell intervention equipment such as coil tubing, wireline or e-line.
In addition, the well can be plugged without having to pull thousands of meters of production piping, eliminating the need for heavy-lift vessels, and the subsequent transport of material onshore for demolition or recycling.
“The solution is ready. We will now enter into dialogue with oil companies to further develop it and start testing it offshore,” saidCEO Mark Sørheim.
“Our experience is that oil companies are very open minded when it comes to cost- efficient plugging methods…”
