STAVANGER, NorwayHydraWell will provide equipment and personnel to support an unnamed major oil company’s P&A campaign in the UK North Sea.

The contract runs for five years and will likely cover operations on a field which ceased production in 2015.

HydraWell will provide support from its hub in Aberdeen.

According to Tom Leeson, the company’s chief commercial officer, the client has applied the company’s PWC (perforate, wash and cement system) technology previously offshore Norway.

For this job, HydraWell will apply its HydraHemera PWC system which perforates the well before washing behind the casing, then sets the cement plug in the well.

“The key benefit of thePWC jetting system is that it can install a rock-to-rock barrier, in line with UK regulatory requirements, in less than two days,” Leeson said. “Traditional methods such as section milling take significantly longer to complete, driving up the associated rig cost.”
