HOUSTON – Talos Energy and its partners expect to drill up to three exploration wells this year on blocks 2 and 31 offshore Mexico.
The first, on the Acan prospect in block 2, is set to spud during 2Q, with the Olmeca-1 well on block 31 to follow in the second half of the year.
Talos said the Olmeca complex had been significantly de-risked by the Xaxamani-1 well drilled by Pemex in 2003. It plans to appraise the same geological structure initially tested by Pemex – if successful, the partners may commit to a development in 2020.
Inoffshore block 7, an updip vertical penetration (Zama 2-DT) is under way in the Zama reservoir from the main borehole of the recent Zama-2 appraisal well.
Talos expects a drillstem test to start soon. A second appraisal well, Zama-3, will be drilled south of the original discovery well with a view to delineating reservoir continuity and quality in the southern part of the field.
