STAVANGER, Norway – The semisubmersible Bredford Dolphin will P&A Noreco’s Verdande exploration well 6608/10-16 in the PL484 license in the Norwegian Sea.
In the secondary target (lower Cretaceous) the well encountered oil in thin sandstone layers.
Noreco and its partners plan to evaluate the results to further assess prospectivity in the license. However, findings to date do not suggest commerciality.
In the North Sea, the jackupMaersk Giant has spudded Centrica’s Butch South West exploration well 8/10-6S, adjacent to the company’s 2011 Butch discovery. The location is in around 65 m (213 ft) of water, close to the Ula, Tambar, and Gyda production complexes.
Butch Main delivered light crude oil from an upper Jurassic reservoir of the Ula formation. According to partner Faroe Petroleum the current well is targeting a separate segment.
If Butch South West is successful there is potential for a standalone development rather than asubsea tieback to nearby infrastructure.
