KOSTENDORF, Austria – Statoil has contracted Archer for permanent P&A of 12 gas wells on the Heimdal field in the Norwegian North Sea.
Archer has chosen German manufacturer Max Streicher’s VDD 400.2 -TOPAZ modular drilling rig to decommission and seal the existing bore holes.
The VDD 400.2, which has been designed to meet NORSOK Norwegian safety standards, comprises modules that do not exceed 12 metric tons (13.2 tons). Erection and dismantling of the rig is possible using drilling platform cranes.
Palfinger Marine will support the program by supplying a PK 23500 M knuckle boom crane and a PKM 700 T pipe handling crane, which are under assembly in Maribor, Slovenia. Both will be delivered soon.
The PK 23500 M, which features an automatically leveled access basket for safe man-riding applications, can also be used with a hook or winch. For safety reasons, various movement sequences of the PKM 700 T will be part-automated, and an anti-collision system from Streicher will be integrated.
The PKM 700 T, with a radius of 21 m (68.9 ft), will have higher capacity than the crane on Streicher’s VDD 400.1 offshore unit, which Archer is deploying offshore New Zealand on Shell’s Maui A platform.
