COPENHAGEN, Denmark – DONG E&P has found oil and gas with its Solsort-2 appraisal well in the westernmost part of the Danish North Sea.
The jackupMærsk Resolve drilled Solsort-2 on license 3/09 as a slanted well in 61 m (200 ft) of water. It reached TD in chalk at 3,157 m (10,357 ft) vertical below mean sea level.
The well encountered hydrocarbons in Palaeocene sandstones. To appraise the extent and quality of the oil discovery two side tracks followed, but both were dry.
Solsort-2 was drilled 2.5 km (1.55 mi) southwest of the2010 Solsort-1 oil discovery, which was drilled under a co-operation between the partners in licenses 4/98 and 3/09. The 7/89 licensees have also helped finance drilling of Solsort-2 to gain access to data from the well.
ESP Oil & Gas has applied for an exploration and production license in the eastern part of the North Sea in Denmark’s Open Door area. The Danish Energy Agency is processing the application.
The Open Door procedure allows oil companies to apply continually for licenses between Jan. 2 and Sept. 30 over all unlicensed areas east of 6° 15’ eastern longitude.
