PARIS -- The ML-4 well has struck gas and condensate, according to Total. The well, in the Maharaja Lela/Jamalulalam field offshore Brunei, was drilled to a final depth of 5,227 m (17,149 ft).

According to Total, the well encountered a 400-m (1,312-ft) gas column in reservoirs equivalent to those already in production in the field. Gas was also found in deeper, high-temperature/high-pressure (HT/HP) formations. Further appraisal is necessary to evaluate these discoveries, the company says.

The ML-4 well completes the first phase of an exploration drilling program that will resume in 2009, according to Total.
