Chevron has awarded a five-year contract to Transocean Ltd. for use of two newbuild jackup rigs offshore Thailand.

ZUG, Switzerland – Chevron has awarded a five-year contract to Transocean Ltd. for use of two newbuild jackup rigs offshore Thailand. Drilling is expected to begin in 1Q 2013 and 3Q2013, depending upon the construction and mobilization schedule. Contract cost is about $246 million per rig, with dayrate adjustments possible over the last two years.
Transocean has a contract with Keppel FELS Ltd. to build both of the Super B Class jackups in Singapore. Capex for the two rigs is put at $400 million. Transocean has options to order three more high-specification jackups capable of work in 350 ft (107 m) of water on wells 35,000 ft (10,688 m) deep.
