Reliance resumes quest in KG basin

Reliance Industries has started drilling its third well on the D9 exploration license in the Krishna Godavari basin off eastern India, according to partner Hardy Oil & Gas.

LONDON – Reliance Industries has started drilling its third well on the D9 exploration license in the Krishna Godavari basin off eastern India, according to partner Hardy Oil & Gas.

The Transocean drillship Dhirubhai Deepwater KG2 is drilling well KG-D9-A2 in a water depth of around 2,700 m (8,858 ft). The target depth of the well, designed to tap the hydrocarbon potential of an early and late Miocene channel fan complex, is 4,875 m (15,994 ft) MDRT.

The D9 license covers an area of around 8,700 sq km (3,360 sq mi). It carries a minimum work program of four exploration wells.
