Fred. Olsen Energy has awarded Hyundai Heavy Industries a turnkey contract to building a new ultra-deepwater DP drillship.

OSLO, Norway -- Fred. Olsen Energy has awarded Hyundai Heavy Industries a turnkey contract to building a new ultra-deepwater DP drillship.

It will be designed for operations in water depths up to 12,000 ft (3,657 m), with a seven-ram BOP, dual activity capability, five mud pumps, a 165-ton capacity heave compensated crane, a maximum hook-load capacity of 1,250 tons, and an accommodation module housing up to 210 personnel.

The estimated cost is $615 million (including spare parts, owner-furnished equipment, and project team), with delivery scheduled for 3Q 2013.

The contract includes an option from Hyundai for the purchase of a similar second drillship exercisable by October 2011.
