Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has approved Dong E&P Norge’s request to drill an exploration well in the Barents Sea.

OSLO, Norway – Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has approved Dong E&P Norge’s request to drill an exploration well in the Barents Sea.

The semisub Aker Barents will drill well 7121/9-1 in production license 518, around 90 km (56 mi) northwest of Hammerfest, in 310 m (1,017 ft) water depth.

Drilling is due to start next month, and last roughly 53 days.

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has auhtorized Statoil Petroleum to drill appraisal well 16/2-10 S in PL 518 in the North Sea, using the semisub Transocean Leader, after the rig has completed its current wildcat for Statoil in the same license.

The permit area covers parts of block 16/2. The well will be drilled 5 km (3 mi) north of well 16/2-8 in the central part of the North Sea.
