STOCKHOLM, Sweden – The semisubmersible Island Innovator has spudded an appraisal well for Lundin Norway on the Alta oil discovery in the Barents Sea.
Alta is in license PL609, 10-20 km (6.2-12.4 mi) northeast of the company’sGohta field in the southern part of the Sea and around 160 km (9.4 mi) from the Norwegian coastline.
The rig is drilling well 7220/11-2 6.5 km (4 mi) southwest of the Alta discovery well, which was completed last October.
