SAN DONATO MILANESE, Italy — Eni has revealed strong results from its Cronos-2 appraisal well on Block 6, 160 km offshore southwest Cyprus.
The well was drilled to appraise a lateral extension of the Cronos discovery from August 2022, and to assess reservoir characteristics via a production test. The well encountered the same carbonate reservoir sequence as Cronos-1 with net reservoir thicknesses of 115 m, confirming hydraulic communication and a connected thick gas column with good permeability.
An extended production test that followed suggested well production capacity of more than 150 MMcf/d would be feasible. Eni and partner TotalEnergies will use the results to support concept selection for a fast-track development.
This was the fourth well on Block 6 following the gas discoveries of Calypso in 2018 and Zeus in 2022.
“The successful appraisal of the Cronos gas discovery confirms the presence of significant resources and production potential in Block 6,” said Julien Pouget, senior vice president Middle East & North Africa, Exploration & Production with TotalEnergies. “Full evaluation of the discovered resources will now be carried out to determine the best development option to contribute to supply gas to Europe and to the region.”
