SANDNES, Norway — Vår Energi’s exploration drilling priorities this year include the operated Lupa and Countach wells, adjacent to its Goliat Field in the Barents Sea, and the non-operated, potentially high-impact Ormen Lange Deep well in the Norwegian Sea.
All its planned exploration wells are on near-field targets. In the event of a discovery, they could undergo early development, the company said in its latest results overview.
Ormen Lange Deep and the Snorre Lomvi Upflank well are currently drilling.
As for field development, the company’s main project is the Balder X redevelopment in the Norwegian North Sea. Drilling continues here with one of the 15 wells completed.
Subsea installation is also progressing with the vessel mobilized on the field.
Phase 1 drilling has finished on the Johan Castberg field development in the Barents Sea, operated by Equinor, with Phase 2 due to start in mid-2024.
The heavy-lift campaign, including turret installation, should take place in the next few months; the FPSO sailed into Stord, western Norway early last month. First oil is planned for fourth-quarter 2024.
As for the Equinor-operated Breidablikk development in the North Sea, all four subsea templates were installed during first quarter, while the Deepsea Aberdeen should start drilling this month. A flotel bridge has been connected to the Grane platform, which is hosting the subsea tieback.
Finally, Vår Energi’s expects final investment decisions to be taken shortly for Eldfisk Nord in the North Sea and Halten East in the Norwegian Sea.
