PERTH, Australia – The jackup Valaris JU-107 has spud the Buffalo-10 appraisal well in the Timor Sea for operator Carnarvon Petroleum.
Following a short delay caused by a tropical storm system, the top hole section has been drilled to a depth of around 120 m (393 ft), with the current focus on running and cementing the conductor prior to drilling the 17 ½-in. hole section to a planned depth of 800 m (2,624 ft) MD, followed by setting of the 13 ⅜-in. casing.
The 12 ¼-in. hole section will then be drilled to around 2,800 m (9,186 ft) MD before setting the 9 ⅝-in. casing.
During the course of the campaign, Carnarvon and UK-based partner Advance Energy hope to confirm sufficient hydrocarbons in-place to support a redevelopment of the Buffalo oilfield, previously produced by BHP Petroleum via an FPSO.
