LONDON – The jackup Noble Hans Deul has finally spud the first development well on the Southwark gas field in the southern UK North Sea for operator Independent Oil and Gas.

Following structural repairs in Dundee, Scotland, the rig mobilized to the offshore location on December 3, initially jacking up alongside the Southwark platform. However, issues with the ROV required to survey the operation caused the program to be further delayed.

IOG expects first gas from Southwark in mid-2022 following installation of the 6-km (3.7-mi) Saturn Banks pipeline extension to the Southwark platform.

The rig will then drill the Goddard and Kelham North/Central appraisal wells while IOG analyzes reservoir and production data from the Southwark 1 and 2 wells to optimize its Southwark 3 well plan.
