COPENHAGEN, DenmarkMaersk Drilling has transferred development of its offshore drilling digitalization product RigFlow to a new company, named Horizon56 A/S.

This is a fully-owned Maersk Drilling subsidiary, the goal being to attract strategic investors to further develop the company and its products and services.

RigFlow standardizes and digitalizes workflows in the offshore well construction process, including real-time exchange of information between companies’ onshore planning teams, the offshore drilling crews operating the rig, and supporting service companies.

Other features include what Maersk Drilling describes as a “convenient and user-friendly solution” for providing digitalized drilling instructions, and automated reporting of data and insights to support faster and more detailed analysis of drilling operations.

RigFlow, formerly Drilling Process Platform, underwent initial validation in 2019, and has since been deployed on several of the company’s rigs, under collaborations with Aker BP, Equinor, and others.

Marika Reis, chief innovation officer at Maersk Drilling, said: “Horizon56 will become the first digital company that solely focuses on creating an industry-leading solution for offshore, and by doing so we ensure that it has the necessary agility to operate and quickly adapt to market trends, as well as enabling the team to independently engage with the market in the pursuit of customers, partnerships, and investors.”

Horizon56 will have offices and employees located in Copenhagen, Stavanger and Aberdeen, and will support Maersk Drilling’s clients globally.
