SANDNES, NorwayVår Energi has discovered oil and gas in the Rødhette prospect close to the Goliat field complex in the southern Barents Sea.

The semisubmersible Scarabeo 8 drilled exploration well 7122/6-3 S in 427 m (1,401 ft) of water in license PL 901, 30 km (18.6 mi) north of Goliat, 5 km (3.1 mi) south of the Tornerose discovery, and 100 km (62 mi) northwest of Hammerfest.

The well penetrated a 28-m (92-ft) oil and gas column in the Realgrunnen subgroup within good to moderate reservoir sandstones, 1,882 m (6,174 ft) below sea level.

Preliminary estimates suggest 22-31 MMboe in place, with recoverable volumes of 9-12 MMboe.

Torger Rød, CEO of Vår Energi, said this was the company’s sixth successful exploration well offshore Norway in 2021. “The licensees will now assess the discovery, as well as maturing other targets in the license and the surrounding area in order to add resources for a future tieback to Goliat.”

Other partners in the license are Longboat Energy, Concedo, and Equinor.

The Scarabeo 8 will next drill development wells for Wintershall Dea Norge on the Nova field in PL 418 in the North Sea.
