KASSEL, Germany – Wintershall Dea Norge has upgraded resources from its Bergknapp oil discovery in the Norwegian Sea, following appraisal drilling.
Odfjell’s semisubmersible Deepsea Aberdeen drilled the appraisal and side track wells in license 836S, which confirmed the oil discoveries in the Garn and Tilje formations and encountered an additional gas accumulation in the early Jurassic Åre formation.
Wintershall Dea now estimates recoverable volumes in the Garn and Tilje formations at 40-84 MMboe, with the Åre formation thought to contain an additional 13-56 MMboe recoverable.
Bergknapp is in 313 m (1,027 ft) water depth, 8 km (5 mi) west of the company’s producing Maria oil field and close to existing infrastructure. The partners (including Spirit Energy and DNO Norge) will assess development options.
This was the company’s second operated exploration well in Norway in 2021, following May’s discovery nearby at Dvalin North in PL 211.
The Deepsea Aberdeen now heads to the Wintershall Dea-operated Vega field in the North Sea.
