PTTEP finds oil and gas at Sirung offshore Sarawak

PTTEP Sarawak Oil Ltd. has made an oil and gas discovery with the Sirung-1 exploration well in block SK405B.

BANGKOK, Thailand – PTTEP Sarawak Oil Ltd. has made an oil and gas discovery with the Sirung-1 exploration well in block SK405B offshore Sarawak, Malaysia.

The well was drilled to a total depth of 2,538 m (8,326 ft) where it encountered an oil and gas column of more than 100 m (328 ft) in the clastic reservoirs. An appraisal well is scheduled soon to assess the upside resources, the company said.

Block SK405B is in the shallow waters of the Balingian Province, about 137 km (85 mi) off the coast of Sarawak (Bintulu).

PTTEP Sarawak Oil Ltd is the operator with 59.5% participating interest. MOECO Oil (SARAWAK) SDN.BHD. and Petronas Carigali Sdn. Bhd. hold 25.5% and 15% interest, respectively.

Last month PTTEP confirmed its largest-ever gas discovery with the Lang Lebah-2 appraisal well on the SK410B block offshore Sarawak. It also found gas with the Dokong-1 exploration well in block SK417 offshore Sarawak.
