Appraisal drilling on the Bourdon discovery offshore Gabon has confirmed a substantial oil find, according to operator BW Energy.

Analysis of the second sidetrack, well DBM-1 ST2, revealed good reservoir and fluid quality, with potential for 56 MMbbl in place, of which 25 MMbbl appears to be recoverable.

The Borr Norve jackup rig drilled the well to a TD of 4,731 m in the Dussafu license, delivering 11.2 m of net oil pay in a 35.2-m gross column in the Gamba reservoir formation.

“The appraisal well confirms the potential for establishing a new development cluster with a production facility following the MaBoMo blueprint,” said BW Energy CEO Carl Arnet. “We expect at least four producing wells.”

The company and its partners have identified further drilling prospects that could support long-term production, he added.

Initial data suggest Bourdon’s oil has the lowest viscosity of all the Dussafu discoveries to date, averaging 3.5 centipoise (cp), compared to 5 cp and 7 cp for the Hibiscus/Tortue and Ruche fields.

Bourdon is 15 km west of the FPSO BW Adolo and 7.5 km southeast of the MaBoMo jackup platform.
