LYNGBY, Denmark – Dana Petroleum Netherlands has contracted Maersk Drilling to drill two development wells as part of Project Unity in the Dutch North Sea.

Although the harsh-environment jackup is yet to be assigned, the 121-day, $12.2-million contract should start next spring.

The rig will be fitted with a Selective Catalytic Reduction system which employs ammonia injection to convert nitrogen oxide (NOx) into harmless water and nitrogen, with NOx emissions as a result set to be reduced by up to 98%.

In this case, the design will include an advanced control interface between engines and SCR units. “We already have experience with providing NOx emission reductions by using SCR systems on the Mærsk Innovator in the North Sea,” said Morten Kelstrup, COO of Maersk Drilling.

Maersk Drilling and Dana Petroleum Denmark have agreed to defer a one-well contract in the Danish North Sea that had been due to start this May.

The two parties will determine the new commencement date at a future point, along with the designated rig. Maersk Drilling expects to receive a deferral fee as compensation.
