HOUSTON – Apache Corp. is drilling its second exploration well on block 58 offshore Suriname, following its large Maka Central oil discovery earlier this year.

Results so far from the Sapakara West-1 well are encouraging, said CEO and President John J. Christmann IV.

The Maka Central-1 persuaded Total to farm into the block, and the partners are working on an appraisal plan which will be submitted state-owned Staatsolie in the next few months.

In the UK North Sea, Apache had three rigs in service late last year and drilled and completed two operated wells with a 100% success rate.

Following the start-up of the Storr development in late November, its production in this sector averaged 63,000 boe/d.

This year Apache plans total upstream oil and gas capex investments of $1.6-1.9 billion, but may reduce activity if oil prices slip from current levels.
