GODALMING, UK – Hurricane Energy and Spirit Energy have concluded that it will not be possible to tieback the Lincoln Crestal well west of Shetland this year to the FPSO Aoka Mizu.

The 205/26b-14 well, drilled last summer in the Greater Warwick Area (GWA), tested at a maximum stable flow rate of 9,800 b/d.

Although the partners received regulatory consent for suspension of the well, with gauges downhole, in order to complete pressure build-up tests and compile interference data, this was on condition was that the well was P&A’d by June 22, 2020.

The partners will now ask the UK’s Oil and Gas Authority for permission to delay abandonment so that they can obtain interference data during a planned well test.

They are looking to drill and test one or more sub-vertical wells in 2020 to determine the maximum vertical extent of the Lincoln field.

As the tieback to the FPSO Aoka Mizu will not go ahead this year they have released the contracted installation vessels, but will continue to assemble all previously ordered equipment.

If approval does not come through to extend the suspension, the semisub Paul B. Loyd Jr. will P&A the Lincoln Crestal Well next month, ahead of the planned start of the Lincoln commitment well.

To make full use of the FPSO’s oil throughput capacity, Hurricane is considering an accelerated work program for the Lancaster basement oilfield, involving drilling an additional production well in 2020 and one or more sub-vertical wells in 2021 to determine the field’s maximum extent.

It is negotiating a rig contract for the initial Lancaster-8 producer to be conducted during 2Q/3Q 2020, with a view to tying the well into the FPSO in 2021, followed by first oil in 1Q 2022.

The cashflow generated by the increased production could be used to fund future development phases.
