Esso Australia has commissioned Allseas to remove up to 12 decommissioned platforms from the Gippsland Basin in the Bass Strait offshore southeast Australia.
The Pioneering Spirit vessel will extract up to 12 topsides and up to 11 jackets with a combined weight of about 60,000 metric tons. This will be the first time the vessel’s single-lift technology is deployed offshore Australia. Its capacity to remove entire topsides and jackets in single lifts should allow Allseas to complete the campaign during a four-month program that is scheduled to start in late 2027.
Once the facilities have been removed, they will be transferred to barges or specialist vessels for load-in to the Barry Beach Marine Terminal in Victoria. There, an onshore contractor will dismantle and recycle them.
Allseas’ engineering and project management teams in Perth and Melbourne will lead the program, supported by staff in the company’s offices in Delft and Kuala Lumpur.
