Varel, NewTech form JV to make drill bits for Russia

CARROLLTON, Texas – Varel International and NewTech Services have established a joint venture to supply drill bits to the Russian CIS market.
The JV, Varel NTS, will focus on manufacturing, assembling, servicing, and selling drill bits, and plans to establish a PDC manufacturing and service facility in Kurgan, Russia.
Varel will coordinate manufacturing with NTS leading the sales and service. In addition, Varel will provide administrative and technology support from its Eastern Hemisphere locations.
Thomas Seeney of Varel has been appointed Varel CIS regional manager. He will be supported by senior staff members in Kurgan who are currently training at Varel’s Eastern Hemisphere base in Tarbes, France. The new facility will have the capacity to increase Varel’s total PDC drill bit production by approximately 20%.
