CAPELLE AAN DEN IJSSEL, the Netherlands – Offshore Independents B.V. has been awarded a project management contract by Van Oord. Under the terms of the contract, Offshore Independents will provide installation engineering, procurement, operations and project management services to support Van Oord’s newly acquired shallow water pipelay barge. Van Oord purchased the barge for pipeline installation. The barge, which measures 120 m (394 ft) long and 40 m (131 ft) wide, has the capacity for installing 18 to 48-in pipelines in water depths of 6 to 50 m (20 to 164 ft). The barge is equipped with a 500-metric ton crane and has accommodation for 300. Currently under construction in Nantong, China, it will be operational in late 2012.
