ENGINEERING/PROJECT SOFTWARE: Program eases access to project data
AIQUE’s SiteBase program, an integrated project system for the process industries, has found good acceptance in Sweden since its launch ten years ago. It was originally developed for in-house use by the company’s owner, the engineering consultancy Eurocon Automation. More recently, it has been applied in oil and gas projects by Eurocon’s Norwegian subsidiary.
AIQUE’s SiteBase is an integrated project system for the engineering and documentation of process plants, sites, mills and projects.
According to AIQUE’s marketing director Per Åström, SiteBase provides a wide spectrum of useful and powerful functions that will help the user to work in a more structured and effective way dealing with all the information within a project, site and/or plant. The main functions are project engineering and document handling. All technical disciplines, such as construction, mechanical, process, electrical, instrumentation and system engineers, can work together in SiteBase and co-operate in the projects. SiteBase can also be used by the project managers, operators, the maintenance staff and the administrators of a site or plant.
Other useful functions that will reduce the facility-related costs are import and export of data, the document archive, links to external programs, auto-generation of documents and CAD-drawings and templates resulting in a consistent generation of a project and document structure.
SiteBase can be adapted to any external program that has an interface which is possible to communicate with, for example AutoCAD, Excel, Word, Visio, IntelliCAD, PDMS, AutoPlant and different maintenance systems.
All the data is stored and handled consistently and safely in one database, which may be an MS SQL Server, Oracle, MS Access or others. The data is only accessible for authorized users. Access to information is controlled by the administrator, who decides who has the authority to read and/or make changes in the data.
SiteBase is easy to install and to operate, features which will save the customers a lot of money, says Åström. In the case of a recent delivery, it was installed and staff trained to use it in three days. SiteBase can be customized according to requirements, so that, for example, it always names objects and documents according to the customer’s system.
