LYSAKER, Norway — Aker BP has contracted the Heerema Vlissingen yard in the Netherlands to construct the jacket for the Munin unmanned production platform in the Norwegian North Sea.
Under a separate contract, Heerema Marine Contractors will install the jacket in 105 m of water in the Yggdrasil development area in 2025.
Aker Solutions will perform detailed engineering of the jacket, with procurement getting underway during the fall and construction starting early in 2024.
The Munin jacket will weigh 5,800 metric tons, with a height of 130 m, and will be secured to the seabed via eight 60-m piles. Aibel in Norway is responsible for the topsides.
Late last year Aker BP and license partners Equinor and PGNiG Upstream Norway took a final investment decision (FID) on Yggdrasil, submitting their plans to the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy.
The project encompasses the Hugin, Fulla and Munin licenses over an area between the Alvheim and Oseberg production complexes. Estimated recoverable reserves at the time of the FID were about 650 MMboe.
To date, Aker BP has entered agreements amounting to more than NOK50 billion ($4.53 billion) with alliance partners and suppliers. All, however, are conditional on the Norwegian authorities approving the plans for development and operation.
