HOUSTON Talos Energy is participating in a potentially high-impact well on the bp-operated Pancheron prospect in the US Gulf of Mexico, the company said in its latest results statement.

Drilling started in late April following the completion of an eight-block swap in the Green Canyon and Walker Ridge areas in 2022. Results should be issued around mid-2023.

Also last month, Talos completed a farm-in to combine about 23,000 gross acres in the Walker Ridge area with co-owners Red Willow Offshore and Houston Energy. Talos will operate and plans to drill the Daenerys exploration well in the second half of 2024.

The potentially high-impact, subsalt campaign will evaluate the Miocene, targeting 100 MMboe to 300 MMboe.

In the recent offshore Lease Sale 259, Talos was the apparent high bidder on four deepwater lease blocks in the Green Canyon and Mississippi Canyon areas, comprising more than 23,000 gross acres with multiple potential drilling prospects.

Elsewhere in the sector, the company has encountered delays in first production and lower-than-expected initial production rates from the Bulleit and Mt. Hunter wells. It plans a well intervention in Bulleit shortly to access production from a lower completion.

Finally, Talos expects its operated Neptune facility to require intermittent production shut-ins this year as it works to optimize flow assurance in the field’s subsea system.
