ESBJERG, Denmark—Welltec has officially opened a new test flow loop facility in Esbjerg, which will provide corrosion testing for carbon capture and storage developments, including Project Greensand.
The new center is said to replicate extreme environmental conditions, ensuring that materials planned, for instance, for storing CO2 in a subsurface reservoir offer the necessary levels of durability and wear resistance.
Project Greensand could store up to 1.5 MMt per year of CO2 beneath the Siri area in the Danish North Sea, and up to 8 MMt per year by 2030. This is a consortium of 23 Danish and international companies, including Welltec, which will help identify optimal materials and undertake corrosion testing using the new loop.
