Offshore staff
ABERDEEN – Unity has introduced new technologies to support its surface well integrity, shallow intervention and well decommissioning services. For offshore operations, the new products are said to cut well bay space requirements, simplify and speed up offline mobilization, and to reduce personnel onboard numbers, with resultant opex savings of between 50-75%, according to the company.
The new offerings are all said to complement the company’s Surface Intervention System (SIS) which it claims provides inspection, plug setting, milling and xmas tree removal capability at a lower cost compared to wireline or coiled tubing intervention.
The dual-bore xmas tree isolation system occupies a footprint of 1.5 sq ft with an operating height of 6 ft above the well cap. It is designed for quick mobilization and deployment for shallow plug setting, and can also be deployed offline without the need for traditional intervention equipment, saving around 60-75% or more per well (the company claims).
Time savings from rig-up to rig-down are said to be 2-3 hr compared to two to three days for wireline or coiled tubing interventions and the system can be quickly moved between wells. The valve removal tool is also designed for use in cramped well bays, providing 1,200 ft/lb torque with optional hydraulic operation.
Finally, the new compact shear-seal valve is designed to reduce the weight and geometry of intervention pressure control equipment. It employs a hydraulically actuated ram, is rated to cut slickline, wireline, SIS rods and coiled tubing and is modular in design, allowing dual redundant stack-up configurations.
