Control line clamp improves safety for rig floor workers
Offshore staff
STAVANGER, Norway – Ace Oil Tools has introduced the Ace Control Line Clamp (ACLC) to the well construction market.
According to the company, testing showed that the product exceeded Equinor’s qualification requirements.
The ACLC is said to semi-automates the clamp’s control line process, reducing the need for workers in the ‘red zone’ by 50%, and time spent in the red zone by 30%.
It provides an axial and radial holding force of more than 40 metric tons (44 tons) and is said to be deployable on any current rig.
The device is partly pre-installed on the tubing. While running in hole, the retention lid is placed in the installation tool to catch the control line when the tool moves toward the tubing.
Its pre-installed parts can be fitted onshore or on the pipe deck.
Ace is also working on a fully automated installation version to for the ACLC to eliminate overhead hazards and personnel in the red zone, to meet future drilling needs.
