Gas leak shuts Aasta Hansteen platform

An investigation is under way following a gas leak at the Aasta Hansteen field in the Norwegian Sea last Monday.

OSLO, Norway – An investigation is under way following a gas leak at the Aasta Hansteen field in the Norwegian Sea last Monday.

According to Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority, the incident was connected to gas flaring.

The leak triggered a general alarm followed by mustering of personnel, a production shutdown, pressure blowdown and deluge.

According to operatorEquinor, staff were in the immediate vicinity when the leak occurred.
