DUBLIN, Ireland – Providence Resources and its partners in the Barryroe field offshore southern Ireland have nominated China Oilfield Services Ltd. (COSL) as the main contractor for their planned drilling program in 2019.

Under the integrated project management arrangement COSL will provide all services and equipment for the campaign, including the nominated semisubmersible drilling rig.

Subject to the conclusion of negotiations and receipt of approvals and consents from the relevant authorities, drilling should start next summer.

Providence and partners Sosina Exploration are also in talks with potential farm-in companies to frontier exploration license 6/14 in the southern Porcupine basin off western Ireland which includes the Newgrange prospect.

Pending a positive outcome and subject to regulatory consent, drilling could take place in 2020.

Tony O’Reilly, Providence’s chief executive, said the company will closely monitor results from the CNOOC-Nexen/ExxonMobil Iolar well in the same basin, due to be drilled next spring.
