LONDON – The UK’s offshore safety record is improving, according to a report from the industry association Oil & Gas UK.
Its Health and Safety Report 2018 showed a continued downward trend in reportable incidents, with 255 reported to the UK’s health and safety regulator last year, the lowest on record and 67% fewer than in 2000-01.
Nor were there any work-related fatalities recorded in 2017.
However, despite the advances in process and personal safety, aviation and health, the association noted that major hydrocarbon releases have remained at around two per year over the last few years.
The association is working on this issue with Step Change in Safety.
