OSLO, Norway – SeaBird Exploration is negotiating to acquire the seismic vessel Geowave Voyager from CGG subsidiary Exploration Vessel Resources for $17 million.
The transaction would include the vessel’s source and recording equipment, with 40 km (25 mi) of Sercel Sentinel Solid streamer.
TheGeowave Voyager, built in 2009 at a cost of $120 million, has capacity to tow up to 10 streamers. It can perform 2D, source and niche 3D projects, and can be modified for use as a node-laying vessel for ocean bottom seismic programs.
CGG plans to use it as a source vessel this summer.
SeaBird Exploration also announced an agreement with MCG to acquire 6,000 km (3,728 mi) of multi-client 2D deep imaging in a two-month survey offshore Norway, including cross-border lines to the UK continental shelf.
The Harriet Explorer will tow a single 12-km (7.5-mi) streamer with a powerful source to image the oceanic and continental crust, the aim being to provide new conceptual geological understanding and improved interpretation of large-scale tectonics.
This should enhance understanding of the regional geology, Seabird said, and may reveal new play models.
