HAMBURG, Germany – DEA subsidiary Deutsche Erdoel Mexico and its partners have signed contracts for three offshore blocks in the Mexican sector awarded this March under the country’s shallow water bid round 3.1.

In all cases, Deutsche Erdoel Mexico is the operator.

The company’s president Juan Manuel Delgado said: “The three blocks give us access to highly prolific basins and represent promising opportunities.

“Now, a phase of thorough and intensive preparation begins. As a first step, we will compile detailed exploration work programs for the blocks.”

Priorities for blocks 16 and 17, both in the Tampico-Misantla basin, are geological and geophysical studies. Over block 30 in the Sureste basin, the partners plan to acquire 3D seismic followed by drilling of two exploration wells.

Deutsche Erdoel Mexico has a 40% stake in blocks 16 and 17, in partnership with PEMEX (40%) and Cepsa (20%). Nearby is block 2, where DEA is already undertaking exploration as partner to PEMEX.

In block 30, in an area close to recent large shallow-water oil discoveries, the company operates with 40%, with Premier Oil and Sapura E&P each holding 30%.
