PERTH, Australia -- Carnarvon Petroleum (ASX:CVN) has been awarded the WA-524-P permit on the flanks of the Dampier sub-basin in the North West Shelf offshore Western Australia.
The shallow-water 1,210-sq km (467-sq mi) permit is on the Enderby Terrace, where there are various untested play types within a proven basin that contains theStag, Wandoo, and Legendre oil fields and the Reindeer gas field.
Carnarvon has identified a pre-Jurassic play with three potential leads on its block and aims to de-risk viageoscience work flows.
This will include a regional source rock study; 3D seismic reprocessing with modern Full Wave Form Inversion (FWI) to improve the quality of the 3D seismic interpretation; and rock physics studies designed to improve confidence in the reservoir properties.
In addition, the company will assess the potential of a secondary play system in the shallower Cretaceous stratigraphy, which delivered strong results at Stag and Wandoo oil.
