BOS Princess will help offshore wind developers understand seabed soils and challenging bathymetries.

Seas Geosciences reports that it has completed conversion of the BOS Princess into a multipurpose geotechnical drilling vessel that is now ready to serve the global offshore energy industry.

With its 80-meter length and close to 19-meter beam, the BOS Princess has been equipped to support Seas’ geotechnical investigations and has been outfitted with custom tools capable of transitioning from water depths of 10 meters to more than 4,000 meters while conducting simultaneous downhole and seabed operations, said Seas Geosciences President Paolo Casciotti.

These investigations will be geared toward the offshore wind energy market, helping developers understand the nature and the mechanics of seabed soils and challenging bathymetries.

The vessel has been equipped with an automated topside geotechnical rig, the “Mako40,” a 350KN seabed cone penetration testing system; the deepwater seabed drill, “Nautilus1; and an array of geotechnical tools, according to Casciotti.

Seas will deploy the newly converted BOS Princess on a global scale, serving projects from the Mediterranean to the North Sea to the Atlantic and beyond, Casciotti said.
