ALESUND, Norway — An unnamed Taiwanese company has contracted VARD to design and build two offshore wind commissioning service operation vessels (CSOV), both of the new VARD 4 39 design.

These will operate both as a service vessel for the wind farms and for the offshore construction and installation phase.

Both will have a large external deck and a hull shape said to support fuel-efficient operations and future integration of a modular power and fiber-optic cable-lay and repair spread.

Other features of the design, according to VARD, are a machinery and propulsion optimized for station keeping, improved workability and operational reliability as well as a battery package to support electrification, a crane and a work-to-walk gangway system. The vessels will also be prepared to run on future fuels.

VARD’s subsidiary Seaonics will deliver the electric-controlled motion-compensated 30-m gangway, 3-ton 3D compensated crane and personnel elevator, and another 3D compensated 7-t crane for cargo handling.
