Smit Salvage rescues Athena offshore Congo

Bourbon Offshore has contracted Smit Salvage to rescue the Athena multi-purpose supply vessel from a location near Pointe Noire in the Congo, where it was towed and anchored on June 26 following damage to its engine room.

MARSEILLES, France -- Bourbon Offshore has contracted Smit Salvage to rescue the Athena multi-purpose supply vessel from a location near Pointe Noire in the Congo, where it was towed and anchored on June 26 following damage to its engine room.

Bourbon says the vessel was resting on a sandy bed at a depth of 10 m (33 ft) and was listing 50°.

Bourbon, following internal safety management procedures, is investigating the cause of the incident, the company says.
