Artemis to test electric foil crew transfer vessel for offshore wind operation

Artemis Technologies has secured £2.3 million ($2.91 million) of UK government funding for a pilot test on its Artemis EF-12 electric foil crew transfer vessel (CTV) and daughter craft in the offshore wind sector.

BELFAST, UK— Artemis Technologies has secured £2.3 million ($2.91 million) of UK government funding for a pilot test on its Artemis EF-12 electric foil crew transfer vessel (CTV) and daughter craft in the offshore wind sector.
The financial support comes via the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition Round 3, funded by the UK’s Department for Transport and delivered in partnership with Innovate UK.
Artemis Technologies has already launched to the market its fully electric, “zero-emission” foiling workboat range. The aim is to prove that the vessels, powered by the company’s eFoiler propulsion system, have sufficient range and can safely transport technicians from shore to turbine in waves of up to 1.5 m, a requirement for CTV operations.
The company’s commercial director David Tyler said, "Through simulation and ongoing testing in Belfast of our 11.5-m prototype, we have already demonstrated that our vessels improve ride comfort and energy efficiency by up to 90%, whilst generating zero GHG emissions, when compared to fossil fuel counterparts currently in operation. The next step is to transition this into an operational CTV pilot scheme, where offshore wind farm operators can experience first-hand the improved sea keeping as well as economic and environmental benefits of our vessels in comparison to current designs.”
Artemis Technologies is collaborating with Ørsted, offshore access specialist Tidal Transit and Lloyd’s Register to develop, test and deploy a 12-m 100% electric foiling CTV and shore-based charging infrastructure at Ørsted’s Barrow wind farm in the East Irish Sea off northwest England over the next two years.
