ÅLESUND, Norway — Norwind Offshore’s new Norwind Gale commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV) has undergone a naming ceremony at Vard’s shipyard in Ålesund, western Norway.
This is the first of two CSOVs that Vard is building for the company, designed and equipped to support the construction, operation and maintenance of offshore wind farms.
The VARD 4 19 design, developed by Vard Design in Ålesund, has a special focus on onboard logistics, safety, comfort and functionality. Vard Baila in Romania built the Norwind Gale’s hull, after which the vessel was equipped and completed at Vard Brattvåg.
Norwind Gale is 85 m long with a breadth of 19.5 m and accommodation for 87 people in single cabins, with the potential to increase to 120 persons.
Equipment includes a 3D movement-compensated gangway system with integrated logistics and 3D crane; a hybrid battery propulsion system; RIM drive thruster and propulsion system. It will shortly begin its first contract for a Danish energy company.
Norwind Offshore, formed in 2021, focuses on construction of wind farms using special-purpose vessels. Its newbuild program will raise its fleet to five vessels by 2025.
