OSLO, Norway — Kongsberg Maritime will supply technology and engineering for a second F-class wind turbine and foundation installation vessel that Cadeler has ordered.

This will be one of the world’s largest installation vessels in the offshore wind sector when completed, according to the company.

Kongsberg Maritime will provide a thruster package, electrical solutions and integrated controls, including the dynamic positioning system, and digital tools to strengthen reliability of operations.

Energy control functions will be designed to optimize the vessel’s energy efficiency, while the battery-hybrid electrical system will feature ThrustAllocator and PowerBoost functions to limit the number of engines online and fuel required for crane operations and DP maneuvering.

The F-class’ hybrid design allows the vessel to convert from a foundation installation to wind turbine installation vessel relatively quickly. It can transport and install seven 15-MW turbine sets per load or six sets of 2XL monopile foundations, cutting down the number of voyages per project.

Construction is taking place at COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry’s shipyard in Qidong, China.
