SCHIEDAM, the NetherlandsHuisman will supply a second leg encircling crane (LEC) to Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) for a wind turbine installation vessel under construction for Eneti.

DSME ordered a similar crane last summer.

As with that order, the LEC will be outfitted with a 155-m (508.5-ft) boom, extended to provide a lifting height of 174 m (571 ft) above deck and a hook height of around 215 m (705 ft) above LAT.

This, and the 2,600-metric ton (2,866-ton) lifting capacity, should be sufficient to accommodate next-generation wind turbines of up to 20 MW capacity, Huisman said.

Features of the LEC include a small tail swing, said to offer optimal deck space. And if necessary, the boom can be stored on another of the vessel’s legs, to free up more space.

The slew bearing is constructed in multiple segments, which is said to make inspection and maintenance easier, and the entire construction and much of the main equipment are securely housed, the company claims, offering protection from harsh marine environments.

Huisman will manage design, engineering and construction of the second LEC, including its pedestal adapter.
